In the beginning of the year, Peter’s class plants some new trees in the school playground. The class is divided into groups of 3 to take care of each tree. Peter group includes Peter, Mary and Tom.
2.Peter’s group plants a guava tree. Each one is assigned to have one mission in taking care of the tree. Peter has the mission of watering the tree, Mary takes care of the weeds and Tom makes sure that no worm will harm the tree.
3. Thanks to the three pupils, the tree grows very fast. It gives a lot of green leaves and becomes a big tree. Everytime people pass by they often say: “Such a very big and nice tree. Who plant this tree must love the tree so much, the principle would praise this group.”
4. At the same time, Peter is walking by. He talks proudly: “This is the tree of our group. It can grow well like this is mostly because of me. I water it whenever it needs water”.
5. Tom is playing nearby. He does not feel good when he hears Peter say so. “Doesn’t he know that the tree can grow fast is part of my effort?” So Tom runs quickly to the tree and talks: “The tree can grow well like this is mostly because of me. I keep my eyes on it to make sure that no worm can harm the tree.”
6. Mary is walking from class to the playground. It’s no hard for her to hear Tom’s
speech. Mary quickly runs to the tree and says: “No, it’s not right. Peter and Tom play only small role in taking care of the tree. I am the one who mainly make the tree grow fast. Don’t you know that I pull all the weeds out of the root of the tree. Without me the tree would not grow fast like this.”
7. All Perter, Mary and Tom thinks that they are the only one who can make the tree grow fast, and the others play only small roles in taking care of the tree. No one argree with the other. There comes a big argument.
8. “Yes your two roles are the most important, then I quit. You will know that my role is the most important”. Said Peter and he decides that he will not water the tree any more. So do Tom, he decides that he will no longer keep the tree out of the worm. And Mary decides that she will let the weed to grow for free because she wants to prove that her role is the most important.
8. The guava is left there alone without anyone taking care of. Without water, the tree starts to wither. Worms start to eat the leaves and braches of the tree and weeds grow so fast that they cover all the root of the guava. The guava looks so miserable now.
9. It’s not hard for teacher Daisy to see what happen with the tree. Teacher Daisy calls the thee pupils to see what the problem is. Peter, Tom and Mary tell the teacher their ideas and don’t forget to tell her that each of their role is the most important.
10. Teacher Daisy tells the three pupils: “The importance of your three roles is the same. No one is more important than the other. Don’t you know that tree needs water. Without water the tree would die. And ofcourse we have to stop the worms so that they don’t eat the leaves and branches of the tree. If there are too much worms, the tree would die also.”
10.She continues: “Futhur more the task of stoping the weed is very important. The weeds will eat all the nutrition in the soil and take all the space that the root need to develop. So if only one of you quit, the tree can never grow. You are all important, and if the tree grows well, you are all deserve to get my praise”.
11. Now Peter, Mary and Tom understand what the teacher idea. If they want the tree to grow well, they all need to cooperate well with the other. They thank the teacher and all come back to their task.
